Mining, Minerals, Ores

Client: One-Source-Water, S. Africa

Scope of work: Acid Mine Drainage is a major problem in S.Africa. Left unchecked the ground water table may lead to flooding in Johannesburg in 2012.

Solution: A containerised ECR-lamella plate clarifier treatment unit was used to preferentially remove and recover iron and manganese rich sludge.

Comments: Preferential recovery of iron (sample 5) and manganese (sample 6) from AMD can be achieved by using 1st stage ECR treatment followed by 2nd Stage ECR with pH correction. Treated water after polishing would be within SANS drinking water standards.
